Dear Little One,

You are welcome at this table. Morning, noon, dinner, and snacks. You are welcome with questions. You are welcome with comments.

Our table is sturdy for all that we discuss. New and scary topics. Old and comfortable ones, too. This table is our commitment to one another, our commitment to take care and take ease – whatever you need in the moment.

Here at the table, we celebrate happy occasions: birthdays, holidays, graduations. We remember difficult times: goodbyes, hurt feelings, sudden loses. Our table is our grounding place. Here we see each other’s eyes, hold each other’s hands, and listen to each other’s hearts.

Our table knows that all our moments here are precious. Spilled sunflower seeds, watered by tears after a lost game will one day grow into confidence and courage. And the dirt from our garden carrots with fertilize joy and a strong community well into adulthood as we wash, cut, boil, and can.

Yes, our table welcomes you, my little one. In fact, our table needs you. Without you, our table is just a table. With you, our table comes to life and we all grow from its nourishment. Come regularly. Come expectantly. Come and enjoy our family table heartily.

Love,
Mama
