My Little One,

I am planning peace for you. These are big words, full of commitment. Tomorrow you will wake to a day full of newness. You might be challenged to be brave, creative, or extra self-controlled at your bestie’s birthday party. I am planning to help you with all of that.

I know your head is full of fuzzies in the morning and guess what, so is mine. I’ve filled the French press with coffee for me and a sippy cup of milk for you. You can get it all by yourself from the fridge and feel content. It’s ready for you. I’m ready for you.

I’ve set out your favorite Batman tee and comfy shorts. No need to deliberate; we can get right to making breakfast. I know you love sitting on the counter. It makes you feel important and involved. I’ve put tonight’s dishes away and wiped the counter clean. It’s ready for you. I’m ready for you.

There will be no epic battle between cereal and eggs because we have a plan. Check our picture chart and set out spoons and bowls, My Helper. Tomorrow is overnight oatmeal–a win for both of us. Breakfast is ready for you. I am ready for you.

Quick as the Flash, let’s finish our 8am checklist: teeth, hair, face, make bed, then land together on the couch. Couch time is the reason for all this planning, after all.

A story, a prayer, and a song together. A check-in conversation before diving into the day. “Who do you want to be like when you grow up?” “How can I help you today?” The couch is ready for you. I am ready for you.

I don’t have any superpowers, but I do have a very strong and determined thing called love. Love that works hard, love that sees what needs to be done, and love that commits to making it happen. Love that strives for peace in our home so that you can walk confidently into the world.

And if our breakfast burns or our checklist gets lost, I have love for that, too. My love carves out space no matter what and that is the greatest peace of all.

Sleep tight, my little one, and run to me in the morning.

My arms are open for you. I am ready for you.

Love,
Mama
